During lunch I leaned against 113. It was warm. Not sun-warm. Body-warm. I heard breathing — slow, dry, from inside the metal. I told the counselor. She went to check. The locker was cold when she arrived. She opened it. It was empty. She turned around. The door slammed itself. She is fine. She does not remember the last twenty minutes.

I drank from the third-floor fountain (I know, I know). The mold on the basin winked at me. Its eyes were the color of old pennies. I told my friends. They laughed. A week later, my friend's locker (113) opened itself. The note inside said "Welcome back." She had never had locker 113.
[09/02/98] nightcustodian :: "the chairs"
I clean the fourth floor. There is no fourth floor on the blueprint. There are 1314 chairs in a room that is not on the plan. They are all pointed at a single chalkboard. The chalkboard says: "YOU ARE HERE." I have checked: every chair is warm. One is hotter than the others. I sit in it. I do not know who put my uniform on me in the morning anymore.
[08/11/98] seventhgrade :: "Marrow writes back"
Marrow was painted over in the lobby. It came back within a day. I wrote "LEAVE" under it. Next morning "LEAVE" was painted over. Marrow was untouched. Under Marrow, in small print, someone had written: "I heard you. — M".
